Santa Monica, CA — Mark your calendars. Now that we’ve all seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens multiple times, we are ready for More.
Here are this year’s Franchise Films not to be missed. And yet, I fear there may be one or two (or three) that one can miss…
Feb. 12th DEADPOOL
(Interested to see if the irreverent Ryan Reynolds-led marketing campaign pays off for Fox. Early reviews are good.)
March 25th BATMAN vs SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE
(The advance trailers don’t look so great to me. This spoof photo makes me smile, though…)
April 22nd THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR
(Charlize Theron’s Evil Queen is back and this time, she’s got an Evil Sister…Emily Blunt, The Ice Queen)
May 3rd CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR
(I. Cannot. Wait. Unlike BvsS, the advance trailers look great to me! Phase Three begins!)
May 27th X-MEN: APOCALYPSE
(Jennifer Lawrence’s last turn as Mystique. Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse. Young Storm!)
July 22nd STAR TREK: BEYOND
(Worried about this one. Trailer looked downright bad to me. All mindless action. No story.)
July 22nd GHOSTBUSTERS
(Looking forward to Paul Feig’s re-make with Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.)
July 29th THE RETURN OF JASON BOURNE
(Does this have an official title? Doesn’t matter. I’m in. #Bourne2016)
August 5th SUICIDE SQUAD
(I don’t know about this one featuring the villains of the DC Universe. Gonna wait and see. Jared Leto as The Joker. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. I like the poster more than the Trailer. Hmm…)
October 7th X-MEN: GAMBIT
(Again, not sure about Channing Tatum or the appeal of the character. Plus, three X-Men films in one year might be going to the Marvel Studios well once too often!)
November 4th DOCTOR STRANGE
(Yasss! Bring on Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams. Interested.)
November 18th FANTASTIC BEASTS & WHERE TO FIND THEM
(Very hopeful for a positive return to the World of Harry Potter. Trailers look very, very good. Big plus: Not post-Apocalyptic!)
Dec. 16th STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE
(Interested. Sort Of. We shall see.)
Dec. 25th AVATAR 2
(Delayed indefinitely. Cameron developing new underwater photography technology.)
